First Day of Spring

This is the first day of spring... So, I decided to celebrate it with a bunch of photographs taken from the Dry Mediterranean Garden at Lambley Nursery, in Victoria, Australia. There, they have created an amazing garden planted entirely with numerous of mediterranean plants and trees. Ohh... I 'd like so much to have a home with such a beautiful garden like this!!! 

Family home in the heart of the nature

This dreamy home is owned by a Norwegian family who decided to move to the Italian countryside near a lake... After a thorough renovation, the owners respecting the character of the old construction and maintaining the old details which made it a unique rustic house, they created an amazingly renovated country house ideal to accommodate a family! What I loved most about this house is its living room with the unique glass roof which in combination with the floor to ceiling opening, gives you the  impression that you are sitting outside while you enjoy the fireplace's warmth!!! A house with enormous yet cozy  internal spaces due to the use of natural materials and colors such as the wooden  off-white beams, the stone wall and the grey cement floors covered with hand made kelims and cow skins for more warmth. And what about the claw foot bathtub in front of the large opening with this breathtaking view to the garden? I would really like to spend some days in this tiny paradise...!!! You?

Vertical planting

A clever idea to hung some rectangle pots in a wall in order to create a unique vertical garden, is to use some old leather belts.... Love it!!!

Relaxing spot

This is exactly where I would like to spend my Friday evening.... A nice designed & well organised backyard   with a lot of plants and small trees, as the olive trees in the back of the built-in bench with the lovely linen cushion, hydrangeas, some roses planted in baskets, rosemarino and of course a fig tree. I like also the wood panneled walls, painted in beige hues and the cotto tiles on the floor which consist a neutral canvas that highlights the vivid green tones of the plants.  I imagine myself here with the company of some friends drinking a glass of moschato d'Asti, listening our favorite music and chit chating for hours or playing a board game.... What do you think about this backyard?

DIY: Hanging Planters

I love so much having hanging potted plants in front of my windows or in my balcony... There are a lot of lovely hanging planters that you can buy around the internet but if you like creating things by yourself, it is so simple for you to transorm a nice pot into a wonderful hanging planter. Here is a photo tutorial, which I found in Drifter & the Gypsy , on how you can make it in a very easy way!!! You will need only some thin, nylon rope in the color of your choice, scissors, a pot and some plants.

Here are some other lovely hanging planters which I found today on Etsy and you can easily buy them, if you  don't like to make one with your own hands. They are both so inspired and excellent decorative items for your space!!! You can find them here and there.

Majorca Country House

For another time we are going in Majorca, a place of Mediterranean where summers are hot and winters are mild, to see a beautiful house. The villa you can see in the photos was designed by the interior designer Mestre Paco, who achieved to create a space of living in a natural and very comfortable environment. 

The bold stone walls in the exterior punctuated by the traditional wooden shutters and create a fairytale setting. In the interior, stone walls and arches, white plaster, white wooden beams in the roof and the pebbles made floor in the entrance and the living room dominate, so the designer choose to decorate the house mixing some industrial design, with contemporary and eclectic pieces creating a wonderful result.

Ionian Paradise

Μεταφερόμαστε νοερά στην Κέρκυρα, για να επισκεφτούμε μία κατοικία με καθαρά μεσογειακό στυλ. Πέτρινοι τοίχοι, στέγες με κεραμίδια, μονοπάτια στρωμένα με χαλίκι, πεζούλια για τη διαμόρφωση του περιβάλλοντα χώρου, φυτεμένα με λουλούδια, θάμνους και αρωματικά φυτά της Μεσογείου και μια υπέροχη θέα που εστιάζει στο απέραντο γαλάζιο του Ιονίου Πελάγους.

Ταρατσόκηποι....ή αλλιώς Roof Gardens

 

Και να που αργά αλλά σταθερά αρχίσαμε να κατανοούμε την ομορφιά και τη χρησιμότητα του πράσινου στην καθημερινότητά  μας. Στην τελευταία μου βόλτα στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, παρατήρησα πως υπάρχει μία πρόοδος σ΄αυτό τον τομέα. Κάποιοι έχουν ήδη φέρει τη φύση στο μπαλκόνι ή την ταράτσα τους και βοηθούν μ' αυτό τον τρόπο κατά πολύ στη βελτίωση της όψης του σκληρού αστικού τοπίου.

Τι ωραία ιδέα.... Όταν η θερμοκρασία ανεβαίνει και δεν μας κάνει καρδιά να μπούμε στο σπίτι, βγάζουμε την κουζίνα έξω! Τι καλύτερο, από το να ετοιμάζεις το φαγητό σου κι αντί να λιώνεις στη ζέστη, να σε δροσίζει η καλοκαιρινή αύρα και να βρίσκεσαι στη σκιά μιας κλιματαριάς ή ενος γιασεμιού.

Όταν ο εξωτερικός χώρος μπαίνει στο εσωτερικό του σπιτιού μας, όλα αλλάζουν. Δημιουργώντας έναν εσωτερικό κήπο, δίνουμε στον εαυτό μας τη δυνατότητα να ξεφεύγει κατά κάποιο τρόπο από την καθημερινότητα, απολαμβάνοντας τα αρώματα της φύσης και την αλλαγή των εποχών, χωρίς καν να κουνηθεί  από τον καναπέ του....

Μποστανάκι με ... στυλ!!!

Τείνει να γίνει η νέα μόδα....Μια καινούργια φιλοσοφία "ανθίζει" στις πόλεις, η οποία πηγάζει κυρίως από την ανάγκη του ανθρώπου για επιστροφή στη φύση! Δεν πειράζει αν δεν έχουμε μονοκατοικία ή μεγάλο κήπο, γιατί μπορούμε να δημιουργήσουμε έναν οπουδήποτε. Είτε το αποκαλέσουμε “urban farming” είτε “kitchen gardening” το αποτέλεσμα είναι το ίδιο: πράσινο αρχίζει να ξεπροβάλει από τις οροφές και τα μπαλκόνια μας! Γινόμαστε «αγρότες» στα διαμερίσματά μας έχοντας τα δικά μας οπωροκηπευτικά! Η δημιουργία ενός μποστανιού ή ενός μικρού κήπου στις πολυκατοικίες δεν είναι ιδιαίτερα απαιτητική διαδικασία και δεν χρειάζεται να διαθέτουμε ιδιαίτερες γνώσεις...αρκεί να έχουμε όρεξη και μεράκι!!! Από τις παραπάνω φωτογραφίες, θα πάρετε και μερικές ιδέες για το πως μπορείτε να στήσετε το μικρό σας κήπο και να μετατρέψετε το μπαλκόνι σας σε ένα μικρό παράδεισο!!!
