Plan an escape in... Critamo Cottage

Critamo Cottage is a 200 years old Cretan house, located near the historic town of Chania.... It is built at the beginning of the Ottoman conquest in 1724 and since then passed from father to sun. Now, after its restoration, it has been transformed into a wonderful guest house which can accomodate up to five persons.
It' s about a unique traditional cretan building with exposed stone walls, arches, wooden coloured windows and a spacious yard with trees and flowers...
Its name "Critamo" is borrowed from the homonymous herb, well known in Crete, rich in vitamin C and mineral content, used in herbal medicine...

Ethnic touch in the bedroom

Handwoven colourful embroidered textiles can give an ethnic touch in your bedroom, making you daydreaming of another era... Here in Greece, in the majority of houses there is almost a handwoven kelim forgotten in a closet as a reminder from a great grandmother.  If you have old kelims don't hesitate to transform them into some very stylish pillows of different dimensions for your bed or make them a very comfortable pouf. They will take off your decoration... In order to add more colour, you can also use a light kelim as a cover for your bed. There are  numerous uses of kelims for a space's decoration... Add your imagination and give life to those unique works of art!

Family home in the heart of the nature

This dreamy home is owned by a Norwegian family who decided to move to the Italian countryside near a lake... After a thorough renovation, the owners respecting the character of the old construction and maintaining the old details which made it a unique rustic house, they created an amazingly renovated country house ideal to accommodate a family! What I loved most about this house is its living room with the unique glass roof which in combination with the floor to ceiling opening, gives you the  impression that you are sitting outside while you enjoy the fireplace's warmth!!! A house with enormous yet cozy  internal spaces due to the use of natural materials and colors such as the wooden  off-white beams, the stone wall and the grey cement floors covered with hand made kelims and cow skins for more warmth. And what about the claw foot bathtub in front of the large opening with this breathtaking view to the garden? I would really like to spend some days in this tiny paradise...!!! You?

Mixing Styles

Mixing different styles is my best... and this is a really good example of what I mean!!! An industrial space constructed by red brick walls and cement floor is equiped with a vintage Papa Bear Chair and its ottoman (a classic piece designed by Hans Wegner in 1954) paired with a tribal side table and a deep red kelim rug which gives life to the room... The result is a unique space with strong "personality" where a lot of us could like to live!

Red Brick House

In an old australian barn, Daniel and Glenny have organised a house with the spirit of recycling... For them, the mix of styles is a priority: a touch of industrial, some French pieces and some furniture dating from colonial Australia. Each element has its own history, and the aged appearance of objects contributes greatly to the spirit of the barn.
The construction took 3 years to be completed and Daniel has used a lot of recycled materials and has developed the construction's plans by himself.
Some pieces, as the coffee table in the living room, which is a Tolix furniture dating from 40's and the clock which is originally a promotional item for a chocolate company came from Frace. Kitchen's tiles also were brought ten years ago, from a trip to a small village in northern Portugal.
The owners didn't hesitate to add some industrial touch in the decoration, using six Tolix chairs in the kitchen, painted in blue gray. They found them in an industrial workshop in Melbourn.
The barn's atmosphere becomes brighter with the use of white in the ceiling and in the walls and every room constitutes a white canvas where the wonderful eclectic furniture are highlighted!

Black & White Living Room

A bright and fresh living room.... I like the use of white color as a canvas with a touch of black in some furniture and decorative items. You are blessed if you have a living room with such a big window which allows the sun to fill the space with its warmth and light.
Then, with simple furniture, a lot of inspiration and some accessories you can transform the room to a wonderful living room. A cozy white sofa with an ottoman is ideal for relaxing after a hard day, a simple black rustic coffee table with a tray on it, full of aromatic candles and a vase with fresh flowers to create a romantic atmosphere, a handmade wool stripped kelim to keep you warm and a black & white  "LOVE" pillow to remind you that love is everything in our life!!! :)

Living in the Attic

One of my dreams is to have a home with an attic in order to make there my bedroom.... I feel that is the most beautiful room of the house and if you are lucky enough to have a large attic, you can organize there a lovely living room full of sun light and gifted with a beautiful view!
I loved immediately the living room of the first picture as it looked so cozy to me. I found pretty neat the combination of cement and warm materials such as sheep skins, fluffy pillows, and the tree stump coffee table.
I was also mad about the glass roof of the third picture living room. It is so bright and you can exploit the sunlight throughout the day. Look at the detail of the hand painted contour rug!
Finally, I could stay a lot of hours in the couch of the fourth, totally white attic gazing at that breathtaking sea view!!! Love also the detail of the hand made kelim and the wooden rough coffee table.
