August Adventures II

Last day of the August today and the Summer has officially finished! But thanks God, here in Greece we are blessed to enjoy it slightly more.... So, since we have a weekend ahead there is no reason not to go to the beach for sunbathing and swim for once again.
Here is a second group of photos of my August adventures as I had promised.

Furthermore, tonight is a Blue Moon.... The best way to say goodbye to the Summer gazing it from an archeological site, which is open to the public only for this night each year, or going to a Full Moon beach party. Whatever you do, have a great time!

Home Office

A really inspired home office. Even if you believe that you don't have enough space in your home to create an office, there is always  a corner to put it. Here, we have an alternative construction, created by old wood and pipes, which is used as a commode or a desk in the back of the couch, in the living room's center.

Upcycling: Butterflies in your wall

Hmm....I found what to do with my old vinyls. Very cute idea!

You can find more upcycling ideas here.

Renovation: Saracen Trullo

In the Southern Italy, there is Ostuni, a little city, famous for its history and traditional architecture, which is considered as an architectural jewel, called 'La Citta Bianca' (White City) due to its totally white architecture.
Today, we are going to visit a farm full of olive and almond trees and a beautiful home, result of an old ruined building, sample of the region's traditional architecture, about 40s.m. and a new modern extension.
The architect Luca Zanaroli respected the history and the surrounding area combining in a unique way, white plaster with stone and wood.
I love so much the natural materials' combination. Cement floors with white plaster and stone walls which become unique with the excellent lighting. Build furniture, antiques, old everyday objects and a few linen cushions  complete in a unique way the thrifty decoration.  This home is a real modern oasis with elements of the Medieval era!

Hang it

What a lovely cabinet! Ideal for small rooms, as it gives the impression that there is enough free space around it. I love also the green and orange ceramics and the comfortable hand-made felt poof.

Moroccan dining with a modern touch

A really modern aspect of a dining room in a classic Moroccan space. The dining room table was made by a raw wood, from an old tree trunk, and its free shape strikes a balance with the perfectly symmetrical design of the hand made floor tiles. The white Eames chairs come to give some light to the room's dark atmosphere of mystery!

Sit on the floor

A vivid space with touches of playful colors.
I love so much to sit on the floor and those kilim floor cushions encourage me to do it.

You can see more orange here and there.

August Adventures

Here I am again, after two weeks of relaxation in wonderful beaches with the company of good friends. The only think that we have to do all those days, was to swim in the gurgling waters of the Aegean sea, snorkeling, sunbathing, taking a lot of pictures, reading, collecting pebbles and shells and of course enjoying fresh seafood, vegetables, and refreshing beers in a traditional tavern with magnificent view. Having gone through a difficult year, it was what I really needed to recharge my batteries in order to have strength to face the new season!
Stay tuned the following days, to see some other shots of my holidays!!!

Villa Drakothea

Today, we are going to travel to the most famous island of Cyclades, Mykonos, to visit Drakothea, one of a kind private villa, which combines traditional Myconian architecture with the luxury of modern conveniences, elegance and comfort.

It is constructed by natural materials, such as stone, cement and antiqued wood and in that way is consorted totally with the natural rocky environment which encloses it. Villa's inside and outside spaces consists of a lot of levels in order to respect the hill's dip, a characteristic that ensures privacy in each living space.
The pool plays with the senses, as when you are swimming in its crystal blue waters you can easily imagine that it is a natural extension of the magnificent Aegean sea.
Its interior is just unique as the exterior. It is decorated with antiqued traditional furniture, pieces of art and linens with traditional shapes and colors.
You can find another villa with traditional architecture here.

Hats for the Guests

Don't forget to wear your hat before you go to the beach.....
It would be so kind to have some spare for your guests, in case they don't have one!
In addition, they could be an exceptional decoration for the entrance's wall.

Rustic Kitchens

Mmmm....I think, I can smell the fresh baked bread which has just taken out of the oven. It's time to enjoy it with a delicious Greek salad, made from fresh vegetables gathered from the little home garden, some feta and flavoring with olive oil and a lot of oregano! Let's sit around the big rustic table of the kitchen, enjoy your lunch with your family and friends and let the room be flooded with the sounds and the smells of the nature, from the open windows!!!

Philip Dixon's Oasis

Philip Dixon, inspired by his trips around the world shooting fashion, created this Moroccan-style retreat almost 20 years ago. You could imagine that this wonderful house is located somewhere in Morocco. In reality, it is situated in the middle of Venice Beach, in USA, but seems worlds away. The three-bedroom home includes a photography studio with natural light and a river-like pool runs through the main rooms. The indoor and outdoor space blend easily into one another. The consistent feel of the home is not lost even in the kitchen which has modern appliances but looks like it belongs to another place and time.

You can find some other homes that look like belong to another era here and there.
